The Siege of Gondor

I’m writing an article about how this relates to the work of building great software and software companies but this series of articles I, II, III, IV, V, VI in which military historian Brett Deveraux examines the siege of Gondor in the Jackson film & Tolkien book is amazing.

He’s a brilliant pedant who knows his military history but also has a decent knowledge of physics and materials science (the part where he estimates the strength of a troll and whether it could lift the iron club depicted in the film springs to mind).

Ultimately the point for me comes in part VI where he talks about strategy & operations, the role of morale and ‘great leaders’ that the work comes into view.
